1 to 1 Singing Coaching

January 5, 2016 by Peter Scott Leave a Comment

It has shocked me how many people think they can’t sing. It is a very popular misconception!

I now offer coaching to people who think they can’t sing, or who just want to do it a bit better. Here are some words from a client I was coaching before Christmas

All my adult life I have wanted to sing but have never felt able.  At carol services and funerals I always wanted to join in but I couldn’t. Instead I mimed!
On the rare occasions I did sing, for example at home, I was told I had a horrible voice.
I had a bad experience of singing when I was a little girl at school. My teacher got the class singing and then came round and listened to us all individually. She tapped some of us on the shoulder and we had to sit down. From then on I never had the confidence to sing.
Because I wanted to sing very much, I had a lesson with a singing teacher. I found it a bit weird and didn’t go back.
Then I saw an ad in Reconnect mag for the Funky-Bizness Community Choir led by Pete Scott. There was also an article by Pete about how lots of people think they can’t sing, and how mistaken they are.
So I went along for an initial one-to-one lesson with him, and we clicked immediately. He has a very relaxed, friendly approach, and I felt comfortable even if I went off pitch.
Very quickly, I found I could sing better than I thought I could. The strength in my voice increased – it was very soft before, and I couldn’t get to high notes.
Learning the simple breathing method Pete taught me was crucial. Everything was much better just with that. Then the simple songs he gave me on just two or three notes helped me develop a sense of pitch. I went home at the end of each session having enjoyed it and looking forward to the next.
I only did six sessions in all, just before Christmas, and on the back of them I went to carol services and joined in. I can sing, not always at the right pitch, but much better than I ever thought I could. And now I can hear when I’m going wrong and put it right again. The lessons have given me the confidence to join in – and I really enjoy it!
It’s been great, and I haven’t spent a fortune by any means. I will be back for more once the building work on my house is done and I have some spare cash again.                                                                  Diane    Dec 2015

I think it is wonderful that Diane had the courage to just join in, and now she is doing something she loves. Did any of the first few paragraphs sound familiar in your experience?

If you want a bit of help getting started (or getting a bit better) get in touch. I’d love to help.
